#ukuleleday and a PODCAST?!

Hey peeps!

Not one, but TWO creative treats for you today.

First off, I finally shot a new ukulele video! To be honest, as much as I want to record them more often, I am so short on time to actually pick up my uke and practice anything that this is how long it takes me – three months for a new song. Could be worse! I had a lot of fun with this one, as it’s one of my favourite Sia tracks. Took full advantage of the opportunity to wear a wig. Win-Win. (Also, first ukulele video shot with my new camera. Such high res. Much FACE.)

Also, as you may already know, I launched a new podcast this month with my friend Lauren called That’s So Maven! We are a podcast by, for, and about female entrepreneurs, and I am having the best time with it.

It’s been so fun (and educational) to sit down and chat with women from all different walks of life who run all different types of businesses. You can find us on our website, or on iTunes, where you can subscribe to our weekly podcast! Episode 2 came out yesterday, so get caught up now and get ready for weekly goodness in your ear-holes.

Thank you to everyone who supports all of my creative endeavours – I love you all and I will see you all very very soon.

Playing with the Future

Well, hello there!

I know, it’s been a while.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been doing a lot of video work in my freelance creative career (check out if you want to know what I do) and to be honest, I just haven’t been feeling the YouTube life lately. I’ve been focusing in on myself, my career, and my emotional and physical health, and I’ve been loving it. I’ve been working on lessening the unnecessary pressure I put on myself, which I am an expert at, so it’s taking time, but I’m feeling a lot of positive results.

Bottom line: Life is good and beautiful, astonishing and painful, humbling and rewarding, and I’m out here enjoying it. I’ll make YouTube videos again, I’m sure, but right now, my focus is elsewhere. I have a lot of creative projects starting up and coming out, and I am so excited and so grateful that I get to do what I do.

One of the big steps I took in my career recently was to upgrade my camera. Yesterday, I finally had the chance to take it out for a real spin, get acquainted with it, and shoot some incredible 4K footage. I put together a video just for fun:

Needless to say, I am smitten with this camera. And I am beyond thrilled to use it for all of my upcoming projects!

On that note, I’ve got lots of work to do! Stay well, peeps! Talk soon.

My Other Lives.

Hey Peeps!

I know it’s been quiet here on the blog and YouTube front lately. I’ve been keeping busy with my other filmmaking lives: That is, planning a couple different film shoots with my indie film company, Kissing Habit Films, and working with amazing local businesses to create videos in my freelance career,

Here are two videos I’ve created, showcasing Edmonton-based entrepreneurs:

If you’ve got a business you want to promote with a video, or if you’re looking to put together an online-based course that requires video, or if you need to capture a special event or presentation, etc., get in touch with me! I’d love to work together.

I’ve got a couple new YouTube videos in the works, including another edition of BANANADVICE (featuring a VERY special surprise guest), another edition of How to Be a Better Human, and a new ukulele video (once this cough goes away and my voice comes back!).

See you all very very soon!

It’s been a long time, friends! I admit, I actually had not even touched my ukulele since wrapping up #ukuleleyear back in September. I had every intention to, but as you may know, life got very complicated.

I picked it up on Sunday and started playing and it felt great, and I’ve been talking about how there are more ukulele videos coming to my channel, so I figured it was time!

Since #ukuleleyear is done, I give you #ukuleleday!

Also, I totally fucked up and accidentally deleted the intro file off my audio recorder while I was making this video. So you don’t get to hear my charming intro. ISN’T THAT A PITY.

Are ukulele videos something you want to see more of? Give the video a thumbs up on YouTube or leave a comment and let me know!

So I missed February in my “monthly” series. Explanation in the video.

But here’s to March! More banana. More advice.

Thank you so much for entrusting me with your heart questions, people. Please keep them coming. I promise this is actually a thing I’m doing monthly.

Shouts out loud to Brother Octopus for letting me use their tunes for my sheer ridiculousness. Love you guys.

Chatty Film Reviews: The Good Survivor

Oh hi!

My friend Tito asked me for my honest opinion on his newest short film, The Good Survivor, which was funded by STORYHIVE‘s latest digital shorts competition, so I said yes and made it into a video.

  1. This video is a chatty film review. I get chatty.
  2. It also has a dog in it. Just in case you’re allergic.
  3. This review has SPOILERS. Don’t watch it before you watch THE GOOD SURVIVOR and then get all Internet-ragey at me about how I ruined it. Internet rage is so over – because I said so.

Really proud of this crew for putting together an entertaining and engaging short film. Make sure you visit the STORYHIVE website and watch all of the short films and vote! Support indie film!

I was up until 3am finishing this video, so this is all the words you get because words are really, really hard for my brain right now. Thank goodness I’m not a freelance writer for a living OH WAIT I AM OH MY GOD NOW WHAT.

P.S. Back to video-making and my somewhat regular posting schedule. There will be a new video in a couple days. I’ll explain my absence a bit.

I just…I cannot stop with this app. I discovered it on YouTube through Jenna Marbles and Julien Solomita (who, by the way, ARE GOING TO BE IN EDMONTON TOMORROW AND I HAD NO IDEA AND IT’S SOLD OUT – damn you, MacEwan University, for not advertising to non-students…)

Who better to play Face Swap Live with than my BFF with a penchant – nay, an absolutely beautiful talent – for making crazy faces.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you FACE SWAP LIVE WITH BFF KAYLA.

That was quite a thing to behold. So much fuckery.

And skating! Yay!

In Which I Torture My Friends…

…With trivia!

Big thanks to Adam Rozenhart, who was such a good sport on my first edition of Two Minute Trivia! Sorry I shook my head at “potassium” when I really shouldn’t have. That’s what I get for trusting The Internet…

Make sure to check out Adam’s hilarious YouTube channel, Just Adam Minute, and his fantastic podcast (which I am obsessed with), The Expats.

Let’s Get Better

It’s really, really easy – painfully easy – to be kind and courteous and thoughtful. Have you ever stopped to wonder why a lot of people just aren’t? Where did they learn to be fellow humans? (ARE they fellow humans at all? Or some kind of planted weirdo species put on earth to test our patience? These are life’s important questions.)

Thus begins another new videos series on my YouTube channelHow to be a Better Human.

Take these with a grain of salt. As I explain in the video, this is sort of like my version of a rant, and everything I talk about in these videos is something I’ve either experienced or witnessed first-hand…

And yes, I swear I’ve actually witnessed the reactions in this video happening.

I know. People are strange.

I’ve been brainstorming this series for over a year, but didn’t want to get ahead of myself while I was in the midst of #ukuleleyear, so I hope you dig them, because I have a notebook full of ideas for more!

Got a topic you think I should be covering? Let me know in the comments!

More fun videos coming soon!
